Saudi Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Meets Syrian Ambassador to Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Waleed El-Khereiji, welcomed the Syrian Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Ayman Soussan, at the Ministry’s headquarters today, Thursday, reported Ajel.SA.

During the meeting, they discussed bilateral relations and ways to advance and strengthen them in all fields, in addition they discussed developments and topics of common interest.

Last December, Syria appointed a new ambassador to Saudi Arabia. The Syrian state news agency, SANA, reported on Wednesday (6 December 2023) that Ayman Sousan took the legal oath before President Bashar al-Assad, as the Ambassador of the Syrian Arab Republic to Saudi Arabia.

Dr. Mohamed Ayman Sousan is a Syrian diplomat and politician. Since 2014, he has been serving as the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates in Syria. Prior to this, he held the position of the Syrian Ambassador to Belgium and the European Union until 2012. He also holds a Ph.D. in International Relations.

Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad visited Saudi Arabia last March and met with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan, according to the official Saudi and Syrian news agencies.

During the discussions, Dr. Mekdad underscored the importance of strengthening bilateral relations between Syria and Saudi Arabia. He stressed the necessity of enhancing these ties across various sectors to ensure mutual benefits and serve the interests of both nations effectively.
