Saudi Artist Uses Art to Call for Peace
It was not surprising that her painting won first place in the “Humanity of an Artist” competition launched by the General Secretariat of the Arab Red Crescent and Red Cross Organization “ARCO” on the sidelines of its “47th” General Assembly meetings in Qatar. The Saudi artist Najla Al-Ghafili succeeded in painting a piece that embodies armed conflicts and their humanitarian consequences, reported Al Arabiya.
Al- Ghafili’s Art: Call for Peace
In this expressive painting, Al-Ghafili issued a global call to find solutions for lasting peace. Moreover, she called for addressing any hatred that breeds violence and conflict, highlighting the poverty resulting from armed conflicts. The work’s concept revolves around a child suffering from health issues, symbolizing his extreme poverty and deprivation due to wars and armed conflicts. Despite his suffering, he holds an olive branch as a symbol of peace.
Through this painting, the Saudi artist managed to convey a message to spread peace to replace wars. Wars only leave destruction, devastation, and human suffering. In her talk with Al-Arabiya.net, Al-Ghafili said that this exhibition expresses humanity towards the peoples who are exposed to threats including displacement, migration, refuge, homelessness, hunger, and poverty.
Al-Ghafili Praises Art Movement in KSA
Regarding the artistic movement in Saudi Arabia, Al-Ghafili confirmed that it is rapid developing and progressing. This is evident in the emergence of a large number of artists in various types of arts and the abundance of art exhibitions. This indicates the country’s interest in the art movement.
Advice to Saudi Artists
As for the points that artists should focus on, the Saudi artist highlighted the importance of defining the goal, perseverance, persistence, determination, as well as facing challenges, as climbing the ladder of success is not easy.
