A delegation of the Saudi Science and Engineering Team left Riyadh to participate in the Regeneron International Science and Engineering Exhibition (ISEF 2024). It will be held in Los Angeles, United States of America from May 10 to 18.
The Gulf nation is represented by 35 students in the largest global scientific competition for pre-university students. They compete with 1,700 students from 70 countries. The Kingdom will participate through the King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity “Mawhibah”, and the Ministry of Education.
Mawhiba stated that the Saudi Science and Engineering Team is made up of top students chosen from over 210,000 candidates nationwide this year. The whole process went through various judging stages in the National Olympiad for Scientific Creativity, resulting in 180 projects showcased at the final exhibition. Out of these, 45 students progressed to the final qualifiers. After a qualifying workshop, 35 students were selected to represent the Kingdom at the ISEF 2024.
The Foundation confirmed that students nominated for ISEF 2024 underwent intensive training by elite Saudi and foreign academic trainers. Moreover, these efforts, supported by national incubators, universities, research centers and teachers, aimed to develop their skills for participation in the exhibition.
The Kingdom, through the Mawhiba Foundation, is a main sponsor of the “ISEF 2024” exhibition, offering special prizes for the top STEM projects, including paid scholarships for undergraduates at King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals.
This is the Kingdom’s 18th consecutive participation in the Intel ISEF exhibition, which began in 2007, as part of an annual program organized by the “Mawhiba” Foundation.
It is noteworthy that during the previous participations, Saudi students received 133 awards, including 92 major awards and 41 special awards. Before their participation in ISEF, they go through a long journey of training and qualification, through the Mawhiba programs that they receive throughout their joining after their discovery, which qualifies them and enables them to reach this goal-advanced scientific and research level.
