Saudi Arabia’s Cloud Seeding Program Launches New Projects Supporting Water Security
Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture Abdulrahman Al-Fadhli, has launched new programs and operational projects to localize modern technologies in the National Program for Cloud Seeding.
According to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), the launch ceremony reviewed the program’s most prominent achievements since the launch of the first phase of its operations in 2022.
The event also highlighted the latest technologies and aircraft used in rain enhancement operations, which will be operational soon.
The new programs aim basically to boost the technical, technological and human capabilities in order to fulfill the Saudi and Middle East Green initiatives for sustainability.
Moreover, the Minister stressed that the new program aims to boost local expertise, ensure business sustainability, and raise the level of coverage and efficiency of cloud seeding operations.
In line with Saudi Vision 2030, the new operations will efficiently reduce aircraft operating costs and increase the outputs of cloud seeding operations.
The CEO of the National Center of Meteorology and General Supervisor of the program, Ayman Ghulam, noted that the program represents a strategic step to enhance water security and ensure the sustainability of natural resources.
Ghulam added that the program has utilized advanced global technologies to improve climate conditions, increase rainfall, and address the environmental challenges.
Interestingly, the program has already completed six phases, with 444 flights and over 1,400 flight hours, deploying 8,753 rain-seeding flares to generate 5 billion cubic millimeters of rainfall.
