The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia won membership in the Council of the International Transport Forum (ITF), on the sidelines of the International Transport Forum, reported Al Arabiya. The forum took place in the German city of Leipzig, reported Al Arabiya.
The Minister of Transport and Logistics, Saleh bin Nasser Al-Jasser, explained that this membership symbolizes the Kingdom’s commitment to addressing transport challenges by finding innovative and sustainable solutions.
It is also a testimony to its established role in developing a future-oriented transport and logistics services sector in line with the highest international standards.
The minister indicated that the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 aims to take advantage of the Kingdom’s strategic location to become a global logistics center.
Al-Jasser confirmed that the Kingdom jumped 17 places in the performance index for logistics services to reach 38th place globally.
It also secured 13th place globally in the IATA International Air Connectivity Index, and 16th place globally in the maritime navigation network connectivity index. He said that the Kingdom launched a new air carrier named “Riyadh Air” with the aim of connecting the Kingdom to more than 250 international destinations.
Al-Jasser stated that the Kingdom is committed to enhancing the resilience of transport infrastructure, promoting sustainable trasnportation, and ensuring equitable access to transport services for all.
The International Transport Forum (ITF) Council was established in 2006 in the French capital, Paris, with a membership of 66 countries.
It is the only organization that includes all means of transport on a global scale. ITF aims to set standards and laws for transport policies internationally, in addition to enhance the role of transport in economic growth and environmental sustainability.
