Hajj 2024: Mecca Welcomes First Batch of Uzbek Pilgrims

Mecca warmly welcomed 950 pilgrims today, marking the first batch of the Uzbek pilgrims who have recently arrived in Saudi Arabia to perform Hajj rituals, reported Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

The Uzbek pilgrims have expressed their appreciation to Saudi Arabia for having facilitated all Hajj procedures and ensured seamless services for guests of Allah.

Early Preparations

Saudi Arabia has embarked on a wide range of preparations aimed at providing the pilgrims with smooth and comfortable journey. The Saudi General Authority for Roads has recently announced that Mecca’s roads are ready to welcome the pilgrims after the completion of extensive preparations.

The projects included surveying and upgrading 4,000 kilometers of roadways and scraping and re-asphalting 158 km of roads. The developments also involved repairing cracks and potholes at 403 locations and clearing and trimming 2,361 km of road shoulders.

In April 2024, Saudi Airlines announced that it is gearing up to launch a fleet of flying taxis to facilitate transportation for pilgrims during the Hajj and Umrah seasons. According to SPA, these cutting-edge Lilium aircraft, known as eVTOL (electric vertical take-off and landing), will transport pilgrims from King Abdulaziz Airport in Jeddah to hotels in Makkah. Approximately 100 of these eVTOL aircraft will be deployed, revolutionizing travel for pilgrims in the upcoming season.

Religious Affairs’ Operational Plan

The President of Religious Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque, Sheikh Dr. Abdulrahman bin Abdulaziz Al-Sudais, has unveiled the operational plan for the Hajj season of 1445H. The plan included 120 diverse religious enrichment initiatives designed to promote the pilgrims’ religious experience in 2024 season.

Al-Sudais has also approved the launch of 1,000 Quran memorization programs to spread Quran’s morals and moderate messages across the world.

Anticipating record-breaking numbers of pilgrims, the Saudi government and private sector agencies are currently collaborating in the operational plans to ensure the comfort and satisfaction of the pilgrims in and around Mecca.
