Saudi Arabia has voiced its strong condemnation and denunciation of Israel’s continued violations of Syria’s sovereignty, including the latest incursions into Syrian territory and the targeting of the Quneitra and Daraa provinces with artillery shells.
In a statement on Monday, the Saudi Foreign Ministry said that the Kingdom “expresses its total rejection of the intimidation of innocent civilians by the Israeli occupation forces and their violations of international law and norms.”
Saudi Arabia reiterated its support for the sovereignty and unity of Syria. In light of this, the Kingdom reaffirmed the importance of halting Israel’s violations of Syrian sovereignty, stressing the need to commit to the 1974 Disengagement Agreement in a manner that preserves the security and stability of the region.
The US-brokered 1974 accord established a strict UN-patrolled buffer zone in the Golan Heights. Israel unilaterally declared the agreement “collapsed” following the transition of power in Damascus, expanding its military presence in the area. However, the Syrian government declared its commitment to the agreement, demanding a full Israeli withdrawal.
Syria has strongly condemned the Israeli military’s incursions into its southern territories and the targeting of the Quneitra and Daraa provinces with artillery shells, terrorizing civilians, according to SANA.
The Syrian Foreign Ministry said in a statement that these acts represent a “flagrant violation of Syrian sovereignty and territorial integrity and a new breach of international law, the UN Charter, and the 1974 Disengagement Agreement.”
The Ministry added that these continued attacks “undermine efforts aimed at consolidating security and stability, increase the suffering of civilians in the targeted areas, and threaten further escalation and tension in the region.”
Furthermore, it urged the UN and the international community to assume their responsibilities and take the necessary measures to halt these repeated violations and ensure respect for the Disengagement Agreement.
