Saudi Minister of Foreign Affairs Prince Faisal bin Farhan met US envoy Tom Barrack in Riyadh on Sunday, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported, as the two officials discussed the latest developments in Syria. Additionally, they reviewed practical ways to support stability in the war-torn country.
This significant meeting followed the envoy’s recent diplomatic visit to Damascus. Specifically, Barrack had met Syrian President Ahmed Sl-Sharaa just one day prior. During those talks, they explored “ways to enhance economic cooperation” between the US and Syria. The Syrian presidency confirmed these details in an official statement.
Strengthening Regional Ties
Meanwhile, relations between Riyadh and Damascus have flourished since December 2024, following the historic fall of the al-Assad regime. Consequently, Syrian President Ahmed Al-Sharaa chose Saudi Arabia for his inaugural foreign visit in early 2025.
Furthermore, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman played a key role in easing international pressure on Syria. In May 2025, the Crown Prince successfully persuaded US President Donald Trump to lift American economic sanctions. He also facilitated a historic landmark meeting between Trump and Al-Sharaa in the Kingdom.
As a result, Saudi Arabia continues to lead regional efforts for a stable and prosperous Syria.
