UAE Contains Fire Near Barakah Nuclear Plant After Drone Strike

The United Arab Emirates announced that authorities had swiftly responded to a fire that erupted in an electrical generator situated outside the inner perimeter of the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant in Abu Dhabi’s Al Dhafra region following a drone strike, according to Gulf News.

The fire was successfully contained without any reported causalities, while officials confirmed that radiological safety levels remained entirely unaffected.

Emirati authorities have immediately carried out all required precautionary measures and safety protocols to safeguard the site and its surrounding areas after the incident.

The Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation (FANR) emphasized that the fire had no impact on the safety of the plant or the operational readiness of its core systems, noting that all units at the facility are functioning normally.

FANR also added that the plant remains fully compliant with the highest approved standards of nuclear safety and security.

On Sunday, the UAE Ministry of Defense announced that the country’s air defense systems dealt with three drones that entered Emirati airspace from the western border region, successfully intercepting two of the aircraft.

The ministry added that the third drone struck an electrical generator situated outside the inner perimeter of the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant in Abu Dhabi’s Al Dhafra region.

It also noted that investigations are underway to determine the exact source of the attacks, indicating that additional details would be released following the conclusion of the inquiry.
