The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman expressed his sincere condolences to Emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad on the fire of a residential building in Mangaf that killed 50 people, reported the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).
The fire broke out on Wednesday in a housing building where dozens of workers stayed.
The incident led to the death of 50 people including at least 40 Indians from the southern Indian states of Kerala and Tamil Nadu.
Moreover, approximately 50 Indians have been injured.
Three Filipinos have also been killed, BBC quoted Philippines officials as saying.
The cause of the fire is still unknown, but the presence of more than 20 cooking gas tanks and flammable material in the overcrowded block caused it to spread quickly, according to CNN.
A fire department official stated that the big number of escape corridors and floors made it difficult for the workers to escape and led to the suffocation of most of the fatalities.
The country’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi named the fire a “mishap” and described it as “saddening.”
“My thoughts are with all those who have lost their near and dear ones. I pray that the injured recover at the earliest,” Modi said on X.
Modi also advised his government to provide the Kuwait authorities with all possible assistance.
According to CNN, the Indian Minister of External Affairs is traveling to Kuwait to oversee relief efforts and repatriate deceased Indian citizens.
