Saudi Arabia Condemns Knesset Resolution Opposing Palestinian State

The Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Thursday rejected and condemned in the strongest terms the storming of Al-Aqsa Mosque by an Israeli official and the Knesset adoption of a resolution that opposes the establishment of a Palestinian state.

In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stressed that these continuing and hostile practices against Islamic holy sites, and international regulations and resolutions, demonstrate the hostile approach of Israeli authorities.

The Ministry also noted that these practices prevent any progress towards stopping the bloodshed of innocent people and achieving a just and comprehensive peace.

Israel’s far-right national security minister, Itamar Ben-Gvir, stormed into Al-Aqsa Mosque on Thursday, threatening to disrupt talks aimed at reaching a ceasefire in Gaza to end the 9-month-old war, according to Arab News.

Separately, the Israeli Parliament (Knesset) passed on Wednesday a resolution that “firmly opposes the creation of a Palestinian state (on land) west of Jordan,” referring to the West Bank and the Gaza Strip.

The resolution added that the establishment of a Palestinian state “would constitute an existential danger for the state of Israel and its citizens, would perpetuate the Israel-Palestinian conflict and destabilize the region.”

Earlier this week, the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned and denounced the ongoing Israeli massacres against Palestinian people, including the targeting of displaced Palestinian camps in Khan Yunis in the southern Gaza Strip.

The Ministry also renewed its call for an immediate and permanent ceasefire and the provision of protection to unarmed civilians in all occupied Palestinian territories.

Furthermore, Saudi Arabia stressed the need to activate international accountability mechanisms regarding the continued Israeli violations of international humanitarian law and resolutions.
