Saudi Arabia on Friday welcomed the decision of Armenia’s government to recognize the State of Palestine, reported the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).
In a statement, the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs stressed that Armenia’s decision is an important step that supports the path of establishing an independent Palestinian State on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
The Ministry reiterated the Kingdom’s call for the international community, especially the permanent members of the UN Security Council that have not yet recognized the State of Palestine, to move forward towards recognizing the Palestinian State in a way that supports the two-state solution and strengthens the foundations of international security and peace.

Armenia on Friday officially recognized the State of Palestine. The Armenian Foreign Ministry said in a statement: “Confirming its commitment to international law and the principles of equality, sovereignty and peaceful coexistence of peoples, the Republic of Armenia recognizes the State of Palestine.”
The statement underscored Armenia’s support for a UN resolution on an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and said it is in favor of a two-state solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
With this decision, Armenia joins several Western countries that have recognized the State of Palestine. Last month, Spain, Ireland and Norway recognized a Palestinian State. Afterwards, Slovenia and the Caribbean nation of Antigua and Barbuda have followed suit.
