Saudi Arabia is making bold strides to solidify its position as a global digital powerhouse, with internet speeds showing remarkable gains as the Kingdom continues to invest heavily in its world-class digital infrastructure.
Building One of the World’s Fastest Digital Networks
According to the fifth edition of the Saudi Internet Report 2025, released by the Communications, Space and Technology Commission (CST), the median mobile download speed grew to 216 Mbps from 203 Mbps, positioning Saudi Arabia among the top five G20 countries in mobile internet performance.
The findings also shine spotlight on the Kingdom’s dramatically evolving digital landscape, where mobile data consumption has surged to an average of 53 GB per person each month, nearly three times the global benchmark. Further underscoring this trend, median 5G download speeds recorded 320 Mbps, with latency remaining as low as 24 milliseconds.
How Is Saudi Arabia Keeping Up with Surging Data Demand?
Recent milestones extended beyond mobile networks to fixed broadband, where median download speeds increased to 151 Mbps from 120.4 Mbps. According to Ookla data, the network also recorded upload speeds of 73 Mbps and an ultra-low latency of 8 milliseconds, further strengthening Saudi Arabia’s position as a leader in digital infrastructure.
More boldly, the Kingdom’s rapidly expanding digital ecosystem is also reflected in soaring internet traffic. Total data traffic reached 69 million terabytes, with domestic usage accounting for 56% and international traffic making up the remaining 44%.
As for mobile and fixed networks, each contributed an equal 50% share. Riyadh has emerged as the Kingdom’s busiest digital hub, generating 30.6% of total traffic, followed by Makkah at 20.5% and the Eastern Region at 16.8%.
Global Recognition and Digital Excellence
The report also highlighted the Kingdom’s continued modernization of the foundations of its digital infrastructure, with IPv6 adoption reaching 67% among users. Meanwhile, nearly 200 Saudi Autonomous System Numbers (ASNs) are now registered online, reflecting the remarkable resilience of the Saudi digital ecosystem.
These accomplishments come amid growing momentum, as Saudi Arabia’s digital transformation is securing international recognition and strengthening its global reputation. The Kingdom recently ranked first among 159 economies in the International Telecommunication Union‘s 2026 ICT Development Index, providing a living proof of the unparalleled strength of its digital infrastructure and connectivity ecosystem.
