Saturday’s Weather: Thunderstorms, Flash Floods, Heatwave Expected Across Saudi Arabia
The National Center for Meteorology forecasts thunderstorms with moderate to heavy rainfall in several regions of Saudi Arabia on Saturday. The affected areas include Jazan, Asir, Al-Baha and Mecca.
The report added that lighter rainfall is expected in parts of Medina, Najran, and the southern regions of the Eastern Province. The storms could bring hail and strong winds, leading to dust, reduced visibility, and potential flash floods.
Rising Temperatures and Sea Conditions
The center expects temperatures to rise again in parts of Medina and will remain high in the Eastern Province.
Surface winds on the Red Sea will range from 15 to 40 km/h in the northern and central parts, and from 15 to 32 km/h in the southern part. During thunderstorms, winds could reach up to 60 km/h. Wave heights will vary between 1 to 2 meters in the northern and central regions and may exceed 2 meters in the southern region during storms. The Red Sea will experience light to moderate waves, becoming rough in the southern part during storms.
Heatwave and Strong Winds in Medina Region
The center has issued a separate warning for extreme heat in parts of the Medina region. The report expects temperatures to soar between 47°C and 48°C in Yanbu Al-Nakhl and Al-Ais.
This heatwave is expected to begin at 11 a.m. and last until 5 p.m. Additionally, strong winds will impact Yanbu and Badr, reducing horizontal visibility and increasing wave heights. These winds, reaching speeds between 40 and 49 km/h, could start at 9 a.m. and continue until 8 p.m.
