Sunday’s Weather: Thunderstorms, Strong Winds amidst Heatwave

The National Center of Meteorology expects thunderstorms and strong winds in its weather report for Sunday.

The report also pointed out “there will be continued moderate to heavy thunderstorms with torrential rains, hail showers, and active winds stirring up dirt and dust in regions including Najran, Jazan, Asir, Al-Baha, Mecca, and Medina.”

The report added that fog may form in the highlands of these areas, while dusty winds will impact Tabuk, Al-Jawf, Hail, and the northern and eastern borders.

Highest Temperature

The center said on its website that Al-Ahsa and Dammam are experiencing the highest temperature at 46 degrees, while Al Soudah is recording the lowest at 13 degrees.

The report stated that the expected temperatures for today are 46 degrees Celsius in Al-Ahsa and Dammam, 44 in Al-Kharj, 43 in Riyadh and Hafr Al-Batin, and 40 degrees Celsius in Medina and Al-Ula.

The report further said that Mecca and Jeddah will reach 39 degrees, Tabuk, Hail, and Najran 38, Abha 26, Al-Baha 25, and Al Soudah 18 degrees.

Surface Winds in the Red Sea

The center pointed out that surface winds in the Red Sea are blowing southwest to west at speeds of 10-35 km/h.

It potentially exceeded 60 km/h with the formation of rain thunderclouds over southern and central parts.

The report explained that wave heights range from 0.5 to over 1.5 meters, possibly exceeding 2 meters with the formation of rainy thunderclouds, leading to light to medium sea conditions in the southern and central parts.

The center mentioned that surface winds in the Arabian Gulf are moving northwest to west at speeds of 20-42 km/h, with wave heights between 1 to 2 meters, resulting in light to moderate sea conditions.
