Reef Saudi Launches Mobile Bee Clinics in 3 Regions
The Rural Sustainable Agricultural Development Program “Reef Saudi ” has implemented a project for maintaining and operating mobile beekeeping clinics.
This project provides services for inspecting and diagnosing diseases and pests to beekeepers at their locations. It also aims to protect the beekeeping wealth in the Kingdom and safeguard it from various diseases and pests.
Ghassan Bakkar, the Secretary-General of the Sustainable Rural Agricultural Development Program in Riyadh, announced that the program has completed the maintenance and operation of four mobile clinics for disease and pest diagnostics. Additionally, the program has supplied seven more clinics at a total cost of 5,548,980 riyals to offer inspection services to beekeepers. These clinics are located in Mecca, Medina, and Jazan.
Bakri noted that 4,200 samples were examined for this project, which focuses on inspection, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases and pests. The project also guides beekeepers with information on disease awareness, sample collection, and inspections. After diagnosing an infection, clear treatment information is provided to the beekeeper, who receives test results, recommendations, and details on the infection and its control methods. Additionally, the project will create a database of diseases and pests from surveys and clinic samples, locations and sharing this information with relevant departments periodically.
In conclusion, the honey sector is a focus of the Sustainable Rural Agricultural Development Program in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This initiative aims to enhance food security and boost honey production by supporting small producers through the “Bee Clinics” project.
