Oleksandr Usyk has won his long-anticipated rematch against Tyson Fury in Saudi Arabia via unanimous points decision, the Independent reported.
Fury’s hopes to avenge his only professional defeat ended up with frustration.
By completing 116-112 ahead on all three judges’ scorecards, Usyk retained his WBC, WBA and WBO belts.
In the first round, Fury kept his distance due to his heavy frame that enabled him to dominate the middle of the ring. Usyk secured the best early attack, but Fury landed a heavy blow. However, neither man made a decisive impression early.
In the second round, Usyk tried to take the initiative, as he darted to his right to duck under Fury’s defense to strike his opponent. However, Fury landed some hearty body shots to his rival and landed a full-blooded effort seconds from the bell.
Throughout the remaining rounds, the Ukrainian champion has shown great control of the rematch, a proof of months of hard work.
In contrary, that was not the opinion of Fury, who described the result as an “early Christmas gift” from the judges to Usyk.
Furthermore, his promoter Frank Warren has labelled the results as “nuts”, “crazy” and “a nonsense”.
Currently, the 37-year-old will look to become undisputed champion for the second time by defeating IBF champion Daniel Dubois.
