Saudi General Entertainment Authority (GEA) has announced that the eagerly awaited fight between boxing’s undisputed world heavyweight champions, Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury will be held in December, according to Saudi Press Agency (SPA).
GEA’s Chairman of the Board of Directors Turki Al-Sheikh stated that the second fight between British boxing star Tyson Fury and the Ukrainian Usyk will be a landmark event in “Riyadh Season”.
Al-Sheikh underscored that hosting this dramatic fight stands as a testament to the Kingdom’s efforts to be an international destination for hosting prominent worldwide events.
The match is part of Riyadh Season’s events, that captivate sport lovers across the world and attract sponsorships from some of the region’s most prominent companies.
It came after Oleksandr Usyk had defeated Tyson Fury in a dramatic night in Saudi Arabia and become the boxing’s first four-belt undisputed heavyweight champion of the world.
Usyk had 115-112 and 114-113 on two scorecards read, while Fury took the other 114-113.
Usyk’s victory marks the first loss for Fury in a 16-year professional career.
In a historic moment, Usyk has received the WBC belt from Fury, to add to his WBA, WBO and IBF collection.
Thus, the Ukrainian Usyk became the first boxer to hold all four major heavyweight belts at the same time and the first undisputed champion in 24 years.
It is noteworthy that GEA has recently announced a long-term strategic partnership with UFC to host another UFC event in the Kingdom during the 2024-2025 Riyadh Season.
