No Iftar Meal Promotions at Two Holy Mosques as Saudi Arabia Announces New Guidelines
Saudi Arabia has prohibited advertising and promotional activities during the distribution of iftar meals at the Grand Mosque in Mecca and the Prophet’s Mosque in Medina, according to Gulf News.
The General Authority for the Care of the Affairs of the Two Holy Mosques has issued new regulations detailing the requirements for obtaining permits to distribute iftar meals to worshipers during the holy month of Ramadan.
Crucially, the new rules apply to all organizations and individuals providing iftar, requiring them to be legally registered with the relevant authorities and to submit distribution plans that comply with both health and Shariah standards.
Moreover, permit holders must distribute meals only in designated areas, ensure public hygiene, and avoid any form of advertising or marketing during distribution.
The authority noted that permits are non-transferable and only approved meals may be distributed, emphasizing that it reserves the right to revoke permits at any time if violations occur.
Violations will include escalating penalties, beginning with a written warning for the first offense. Meanwhile, repeated breaches will result in permit revocation and disqualification from taking part in meal distribution for the remainder of Ramadan.
