Pakistan’s army chief Field Marshal Asim Munir arrived in Tehran on Wednesday, along with a high-level delegation, amid an intensified push to facilitate a new round of talks between the US and Iran.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi received Munir upon his arrival. Araghchi’s official Telegram channel and social media accounts affiliated with Iran’s governments published a video footage and photos of a meeting between the Pakistani delegation and senior Iranian officials.
The Pakistani delegation includes representatives from the Foreign Ministry, security institutions and technical experts, Iranian English-language news website Press TV reported.

Iranian media also reported that the Pakistani army chief’s visit aims to convey a message from the US to Iran’s leadership and plan the next round of negotiations.
“The delegation is carrying a new message from Washington for Tehran. The delegation is scheduled to meet with Iranian officials to discuss future negotiations,” Iranian state media reported, citing sources.
Furthermore, two Pakistani officials told the Associated Press (AP) that the visit aims to de-escalate regional tensions and facilitate a second round of negotiations.

The arrival of Munir to Tehran was confirmed by the Inter-Services Public Relations, Pakistan military’s media wing, which noted that Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi was also present “as part of the ongoing mediation efforts.”
Over the weekend, the Pakistani capital hosted the first direct talks in decades between the US and Iran to negotiate a permanent end to the war before a two-week ceasefire expires on April 21.
Although the talks failed to achieve a breakthrough, Islamabad has emerged as the likely host of a new round over the coming days.
Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has embarked on a four-day tour, including stops in Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Türkiye, to discuss the latest regional developments.
