Moscow Shooting Claimed 115, Saudi King, Crown Prince Condole

More than 115 people have been killed and 145 wounded in Russia’s worst terror attack in years, as gunmen in combat fatigues opened fire and detonated explosives in a major concert hall on the outskirts of Moscow. State news agency Ria on Saturday quoted a spokesperson for Russia’s Investigative Committee saying the death toll could rise.

Islamic State Claims Responsibility

Islamic State claimed responsibility for the attack late on Friday, in a post on Telegram in which the group claimed its gunmen had managed to escape afterwards. A US official said Washington had intelligence confirming Islamic State’s claim. In one clip, three men in fatigues carrying rifles fired at point-blank range into bodies strewn about the lobby of the concert hall.

Response and Updates

Three emergency helicopters had been deployed to extinguish the fire. There had been a partial collapse of the roof of the Crocus City Mall, local media reported. Shortly after midnight, the emergencies ministry said the fire had been contained. In his first comments on the shooting, President Vladimir Putin wished all those injured in the terrorist attack a speedy recovery. Kremlin said the president was being updated by security chiefs about the situation, including from Alexander Bortnikov, the head of the Federal Security Service (FSB).

Saudi Leadership Condoles Putin over Victims of Moscow Attack

The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud sent a cable of condolences on Saturday to Russian President Vladimir Putin over the victims of the terrorist attack that took place near Moscow.

The King strongly condemned the attack and expressed deepest condolences and sincere sympathy to the president, the families of the victims, and the people of Russia, wishing the injured speedy recovery.

Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, also sent Putin a similar cable.

Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs Condemns Terrorist Attack in Moscow

The Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the armed terrorist attack near Moscow’s “Kroks City Hall” commercial center.

The ministry expressed the Kingdom’s sincerest sorrow and condolences to the families of the victims, the government and people of Russia, underlying the importance of combating all forms of terrorism and extremism.

The mimistry hoped safety and security will prevail in Russia and wished a speedy recovery for the injured in the heinous attack.
