Saudi Arabia, Russia Discuss Escalation in Gaza
The Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan and his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov discussed the latest grave Gaza updates.
On a phone call on Tuesday, Farhan appreciated Russia’s support to the United Nations’ resolution, issued last Friday, that aimed to implement immediate ceasefire and an urgent humanitarian truce in besieged Gaza, as per Saudi Press Agency.
The two ministers said that it is crucial for the international community to play its role in order to fully protect the civilians and find a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian cause.
Saudi Arabia has been condemning the Israeli operations, warning that a ground offensive can be catastrophic.
Discussions between Saudi Arabia and other countries stressed the necessity for de-escalating the situation and halting all military co-operations in the enclave.
What is Happening in Gaza?
Since Hamas attack on Israel on October 7, which left 1400 dead, Israel has been violently retaliating. Israel has been air striking residential areas, leaving hundreds dead under the rubble or even worse: stuck waiting for people to manually get them out.
Under the claim that Hamas members are hiding in residential areas and among citizens; Israel has been bombing densely populated areas and hospitals. On October 18, Israel bombed Al-Ahli Baptist Hospital.
Israeli warplanes struck Jabalia refugee camp leaving dozens killed. A nearby hospital said that it received 400 causalities. Israel’s military said that the strike killed a senior Hamas Commander and “underground terror infrastructure” was destroyed.
On Friday evening, Israeli soldiers started to enter Gaza, marking the beginning of the ground offensive.
The Palestinian death toll surpassed 8000 until now, 3542 of which are children.
Where Does Russia Stand?
Expectedly, Russia’s President Vladimir Putin held the west responsible for the crisis in the Middle East, saying that “ruling elites of the U.S.” and their satellites backed the killing of Gazans as well as the conflicts in Ukraine, Iraq, Afghanistan and Syria.
“They need constant chaos in the Middle East. Therefore, the U.S. does its best to discredit those countries that insist on an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, on stopping the bloodshed, and are ready to make a real contribution to resolving the crisis, and not parasitize on it,” said Putin.
Hence, Russia supports ceasefire in Gaza and a two-state solution.
Moscow welcomed a Hamas delegation, ruffling Israel’s feather.
“Palestine can only be helped by fighting those who are behind this tragedy. We are Russia and we are fighting them in the context of the ‘special military operation for ourselves and for those who strive for real true freedom,” said the Russian President adding, “The key to resolving the conflict is in the creation of a sovereign, independent Palestinian state”.
