Missile Attack Targets US Embassy in Baghdad

The Embassy of the United States in the Iraqi capital Baghdad came under a missile attack on Saturday, with smoke seen rising from the compound, according to Asharq Al-Awsat.

Iraqi security sources did not provide further details about the strike.

Earlier, an airstrike hit a residential property in Baghdad, claiming at least one life, according to both a security official and a source connected to Iranian-backed armed groups operating in the country.

Moreover, the attack in Baghdad’s Karrada district also left two people wounded, according to sources who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to the media.

The Iraqi military denounced the strike and labeled it as “a blatant violation of all humanitarian values and a disregard for international conventions.”

On Thursday, officials from the Italian Defense Ministry reported that an Italian military base in Iraqi Kurdistan came under an overnight airstrike.

“There are no casualties or injuries among the Italian personnel. They are all fine,” the Defense Ministry said on X, shortly after midnight.

US-Israel Strikes

The United States and Israel launched strikes on Iran on February 28, targeting its leadership and triggering a new conflict in the Middle East.

Iran has been responding with a retaliatory counterattack in Bahrain, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Abu Dhabi as a retaliatory move, while launching barrages of missiles and drones toward Israel.

One of the US-Israel strikes had killed Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. His killing has raised critical questions concerning Iran’s future.

US embassies across the Middle East have been placed on heightened alert. Moreover, Iran has targeted several diplomatic missions as part of its retaliatory strikes that targeted industrial and diplomatic sites.
