Explosions in Bahrain, Kuwait, Abu Dhabi as Iran Responds to US-Israeli Attack

Sounds of explosions were reported in Bahrain, Kuwait and Abu Dhabi as Iran launched a counterattack in retaliation for a joint US-Israeli attack.

The Bahraini National Communication Center said that service center of the US Fifth Fleet has been subjected to a missile attack, reported Bahrain News Agency.

Additionally, sirens and explosions were heard in Kuwait, home to US Army Central, according to AFP correspondent.

Meanwhile, two residents in Abu Dhabi reported hearing loud explosions in the UAE capital, which hosts a military base housing US personnel. The UAE has “temporarily and partially” closed its airspace as a precautionary measure.

Qatar also said its air defenses had intercepted several missiles before they reached its airspace, the Qatari Defense Ministry said. In a statement carried by Qatar News Agency, the ministry said it dealt with the missiles as soon as they were detected “in accordance with the pre-approved security plan.”

Furthermore, it emphasized that the Qatari Armed Forces possess the full capabilities and resources to protect the country. Qatar is home to Al-Udeid military base, the largest US military facility in the Middle East.

On Saturday morning, Israel and the US launched a joint military attack on Iran. The Pentagon dubbed the US operations “Operation Epic Fury,” while Israel called its mission “Operation Lion’s Roar.”

In retaliation, Iran launched barrages of missiles and drones toward Israel as part of a “counterattack.” The Iranian Revolutionary Guard said it has launched its “first wave” of drones and missiles targeting Israel, according to Tasnim news agency.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry said that the country will “defend the homeland and confront the enemy’s military assault.” It also said that the Iranian armed forces “will decisively respond to the aggressors with full authority.”
