US-Israeli Strikes Targeted Iran’s Supreme Leader, President

The joint US-Israeli strikes against Iran targeted both the Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and President Masoud Pezeshkian, Reuters reported citing an Israeli official.

The official said that the result of the strikes remain unclear. Reuters reported earlier that Khamenei was not in Tehran and had been transferred to a secure location.

The New York Times published satellite imagery showing destruction in Khamenei’s compound in Tehran.

The strikes also killed several senior Revolutionary Guard commanders and political officials, an Iranian source told Reuters.

Israeli officials believe the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps commander, Gen. Mohammad Pakpour, was killed in Saturday morning’s strikes, reported the Times of Israel.

Additionally, they assess that Iran’s Defense Minister and Chief of Intelligence were also killed in the strikes. However, there was no confirmation from Iran or the Israeli military.

On Saturday, February 28, 2026, the US and Israel launched joint military strikes against Iran. “The strike targeted dozens of military targets and was carried out as part of a broad, coordinated, and joint operation against the regime,” the Israeli military said in a statement.

“In the months preceding the strike, close and joint planning was conducted between the (Israeli military) and the US military, enabling the execution of the broad strike in full synchronization and coordination between the two militaries,” it added.

Furthermore, the Israeli military said it struck hundreds of targets in western Iran, including missile launchers.

In response, Iran’s Revolutionary Guard vowed “crushing response,” announcing that it had launched the “first phase” of a counterattack, dubbed “Operation Truthful Promise 4.”

Iranian missiles and drones hit the command of the US 5th Fleet in Bahrain, and US bases in Qatar and the UAE, in addition to military targets in Israel.
