Majmaah University announced that its astronomical observatory is ready for Shawwal crescent sighting.
In a post on “X”, the Observatory said it will open its doors to visitors and guests to sight Shawwal crescent, Monday, Ramadan 29, 1445 Hijri, corresponding to April 8, 2024, from 1 pm.
The sighting of Shawwal crescent moon marks the end of the fasting month of Ramadan. It also signals the beginning of Eid al-Fitr, a Muslim holiday celebrated on the first day of Shawwal.
If the moon is not seen on Monday, it means that Tuesday will be Ramadan 30, and Eid al-Fitr will start on Wednesday.
Saudi Arabia’s Supreme Court has called on all Muslims across the country to sight the crescent of Shawwal moon Monday evening.
In an announcement on Saturday, the Supreme Court urged whoever sights the crescent with naked eyes or through binoculars to report to the nearest court and register their testimony.
The Supreme Court expressed hope that those who are able to sight the crescent will join committees formed for that purpose in other regions and participate in such efforts for the benefit of Muslims, according to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).
