Lucid Motors Assembles 800 Electric Cars in Jeddah

Saudi Arabia begins its journey to fulfill its commitment of achieving carbon neutrality and innovating clean-energy-based solution, reported Akhbaar 24. This follows the Public Investment Fund’s acquisition of a significant stake in Lucid Motors. The company has assembled about 800 electric cars in Jeddah in its King Abdullah Economic City factory since its inauguration.

Lucid Motors’ Saudi Expansion

California-based Lucid Motors turned to Saudi Arabia for when it wanted to open its first factory outside the United States. The Jeddah factory, opened last September, has an initial production capacity of 5,000 cars annually. This follows Saudi Arabia’s commitment to purchase up to 100,000 vehicles over 10 years. The focus is currently on training over 200 local employees.

The Assembly Process in Jeddah

Cars are manufactured in Arizona, then disassembled and shipped to Saudi Arabia. Then inn Jeddah, workers reconnect the battery, fit the tires, and retest the cars. The factory produces between 16 to 20 vehicles daily, as revealed by Faisal Sultan, the company’s Middle East Managing Director and Vice President.

Employee Training and Future Plans

Training local employees, half of whom are Saudi nationals, is a primary goal for Lucid Motors. This training is part of preparations for a full-build unit, aiming to manufacture cars by 2026. Construction for this facility has already begun.

Public Investment Fund’s Major Stake

The Public Investment Fund owns 67% of Lucid Motors, with investments totaling $1.3 billion, approximately 4.9 billion Riyals.
