KSA Launches National Plan to Protect Saudi Cultural Heritage
The Ministry of Culture launched the National Plan project for the collection, documentation, archiving, and management of assets and elements of Saudi cultural heritage, reported AlRiyadh. It is a national initiative within the Saudi Cultural Memory Center.
Preserving Saudi Cultural Heritage
This aims to preserve the rich fabric of the Kingdom’s cultural heritage by building a memory for Saudi culture, including a comprehensive survey of tangible and intangible cultural treasures, which form the baseline for the national identity.
Through this project, the center works on preparing a national plan that aims to map out a roadmap for identifying, documenting, archiving, preserving, and publishing the cultural heritage assets and elements in the Kingdom .
In this project, the Ministry works alongside stakeholders from within the cultural system and beyond as well as individuals, to identify the elements and assets of cultural heritage. They work on conducting multiple workshops with stakeholders and the local community across different regions of the Kingdom, inviting the local community to a collaborative effort. Thus, this effort serves as a cornerstone upon which a strong foundation for the Kingdom’s cultural heritage is built.
Saudi Cultural Memory Center
The Ministry of Culture established the Saudi Cultural Memory Center in February 2021. The center aims to direct efforts towards preserving, archiving, and managing cultural heritage in the Kingdom. Its designs strategies and policies for archiving cultural heritage, manages the digital archive. Moreover, it empowers the cultural heritage sector in the Kingdom.
The launch of this project is part of the Ministry of Culture‘s efforts to build a digital cultural content and a reliable knowledge source for nurturing Saudi cultural heritage. These efforts lay the foundation for a future where cultural heritage is not only remembered but continues to thrive.
