The King Abdulaziz Center for World Culture (Ithra) celebrated Saudi Arabia’s hosting of the 2034 FIFA World Cup yesterday with a series of events spanning four days, from December 11 to December 14. This celebration aligns with Ithra’s role as a key cultural destination in the Eastern Province and its commitment to engaging the community in national events.
The festivities began with a light show and custom-designed building illumination marking this historic occasion. Drone art displays featured a map of Saudi Arabia, alongside a welcoming message for the World Cup. Other attractions included meet-and-greet sessions with players from Al-Qadisiyah Club, live music performances, stadium chants, skill challenges like the “30-Second Challenge” and “Header Challenge,” as well as activities catering to all age groups.
Wadha Al-Nafjan, Head of the Visitor Experience Unit at Ithra, stated that the center celebrated Saudi Arabia’s hosting of the 2034 FIFA World Cup as part of its mission to create a positive and tangible impact. She also emphasized Ithra’s social responsibility as a prominent cultural landmark that actively engages with the community and promotes cultural exchange on a global platform.
Al-Nafjan also highlighted Ithra’s commitment to participating in sports-related events, particularly those involving the Saudi national team. In 2022, the center hosted the original FIFA World Cup Trophy Tour before the Qatar World Cup finals, illuminating its building in green following Saudi Arabia’s victory over Argentina in the tournament.
Ithra Winter
Notably, alongside the announcement of Saudi Arabia’s World Cup hosting, Ithra launched its “Ithra Winter” program, running from December 11, 2024, to January 18, 2025. The program features 14 zones offering a variety of activities, including musical performances, culinary experiences, children’s games, a winter bazaar, and exceptional activities designed for the entire community to enjoy memorable moments.
