Items That Shouldn’t Be Left in Cars as Saudi Arabia Welcomes Summer

As Saudi Arabia ushers in the summer season, authorities are urging residents to take precautions against the scorching temperatures expected in the coming months.

According to reports from the National Center of Meteorology, maximum temperatures in May have already reached as high as 46 degrees Celsius in some regions, making cars especially hazardous for certain materials.

In light of the extreme heat experienced in several cities and provinces, which may exceed a sweltering 48 degrees Celsius in certain areas, civil defense agencies worldwide, particularly in regions with high temperatures, are issuing warnings.

These warnings emphasize the dangers of leaving various items inside parked cars, especially those that are flammable.

Items such as perfumes, air fresheners, disinfectant alcohol, lighters, as well as electronic devices like cameras, tablets, chargers, mobile phones, and batteries, should never be left unattended in vehicles.

Medication should also be kept out of cars due to the fluctuating temperatures, which can affect their potency and chemical composition, potentially leading to poisoning or even fatalities in some cases.

Water, carbonated beverages, and packaged juices in bottles can also pose risks, as they have the potential to cause fires or bottle explosions, resulting in significant damage.

It is crucial to exercise caution when leaving liquid substances in plastic containers, as the chemicals may degrade and leak inside.

Items should never be left unattended in your car:

  • Expensive electronic devices, as they can attract thieves and contain valuable information.
  • Water bottles, which can become contaminated by chemicals from the plastic when exposed to high temperatures.
  • Medications, as fluctuating temperatures can diminish their effectiveness.
  • Purses or wallets, which may contain cash, credit cards, and personal identification at risk of theft.
  • Important documents, such as tax forms, financial statements, school transcripts, or passports, which can be exploited for identity theft or fraud.
  • Canned beverages, which are prone to exploding under extreme temperatures.
  • Pets, as the rising temperatures inside a parked car can quickly become life-threatening.
  • Perishable groceries, which can promote the growth of harmful bacteria when left in a hot car for extended periods.
  • Lighters, which can leak or cause fires if exposed to high temperatures.
  • Art supplies, such as crayons and pastels, which can melt and create a messy situation.
  • Cosmetics, including lipsticks that can turn into a waxy mess, and mascara that may freeze and lose its effectiveness.
  • Leaving cash visible in the car, regardless of the amount, can attract thieves and increase the risk of a break-in.
  • Storing wooden musical instruments, like guitars or violins, in a car can cause permanent damage due to rapid changes in temperature and humidity.
  • Glasses and sunglasses, as extreme temperatures can warp plastic frames or make them brittle and prone to breakage.

With summer temperatures expected to persist in Saudi Arabia, the public is advised to crucially exercise caution and follow these guidelines to ensure the safety of both individuals and their belongings.
