The Islamic Military Counter Terrorism Coalition (IMCTC) has concluded a specialized training program in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, titled “Analyzing Extremist and Hate Speech in Digital Media: Tools and Techniques for Smart Countermeasures.” The initiative forms part of its broader “Media Professionals for Peace” program, which seeks to strengthen the capabilities of media practitioners in addressing fast-evolving intellectual and digital challenges.

The program brought together 30 participants, including journalists and individuals engaged in media-related fields. It focused on deepening understanding of extremist and hate speech, examining the factors behind its spread, and enhancing participants’ professional skills in managing media content according to best practices. The goal is to reinforce the media’s role in countering extremism while promoting balanced and moderate messaging.

Sessions also emphasized hands-on learning, equipping participants with digital verification tools, techniques for monitoring and analyzing content, and methods to identify misinformation. In addition, the training supported the development of responsible content creation that fosters a culture of peace and strengthens values of tolerance and coexistence.

Throughout the program, particular attention was given to the critical role of media professionals in today’s digital landscape as “digital gatekeepers.” The training underscored their ethical and professional responsibility to challenge misleading narratives, enhance the credibility of media output, and curb the spread of rumors.
