IMCTC Strengthens Media Capacity Through “Peace Journalists Initiative” in Côte d’Ivoire

The Islamic Military Counter Terrorism Coalition (IMCTC) has launched a new training program in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, titled “Analyzing Extremist and Hate Speech in Digital Media – Tools and Smart Countering Technologies.” The program is part of its broader strategic effort, the “Peace Journalists Initiative.”

Bringing together 30 participants, including media professionals and individuals interested in media affairs, the program reflects IMCTC’s ongoing commitment to enhancing the media’s role in addressing extremist narratives and hate speech. It also aims to build awareness and equip participants with the skills needed to respond to rapidly evolving challenges in the digital landscape, ultimately supporting social stability and promoting a culture of peace.

The training focuses on strengthening participants’ ability to counter extremist discourse online. It deepens their understanding of the theoretical foundations of hate speech, examines the factors driving its spread, and provides practical tools to address such content professionally in line with best media practices.

Additionally, the program underscores the critical role of journalists as “digital gatekeepers” in today’s media environment. It highlights the importance of maintaining high ethical and professional standards, particularly in fact-checking and combating misinformation, to enhance credibility and reduce the spread of false information.

This initiative is part of a wider series of training programs delivered under the “Peace Journalists Initiative.” It demonstrates IMCTC’s ongoing dedication to empowering media professionals, strengthening collaboration among member states, and building sustainable capabilities to counter extremism and terrorist narratives through innovative and effective approaches.
