The newly registered sites span several regions, with Hail leading with 50 registered sites, followed by Makkah with 39 sites, then Qassim with 34 sites, Al-Jouf with 28 sites, Madinah with 14 sites, and Tabuk with 13 sites.
The Riyadh region included 8 sites registered in the recent list, while the Jazan region contained 5 new sites that were added to the National Register of Antiquities. As for the regions of Asir, Najran, and the northern border, two sites were registered in each region, while the Eastern Region recorded one site.
The registration of these sites is based on the Antiquities and Urban Heritage System to protect sites of historical and cultural importance and document them appropriately.
Heritage Authority
The Heritage Authority affirmed that the registration of these sites is part of its comprehensive efforts to document and revitalize the national cultural heritage. This initiative provides researchers and enthusiasts with reliable data on heritage locations and archaeological sites in the Kingdom. Additionally, the Authority aims to encourage scientific archaeological studies and highlight the historical significance of these discovered sites. It also enhances the value of Saudi heritage on a global scale.
The Heritage Authority also acknowledged the role of local communities in discovering these sites, emphasizing that their active participation greatly contributes to the protection of cultural heritage and raises awareness among future generations about the importance of these sites.
