Saudi authorities have announced that Muslims wishing to pray at Al Rawda Al Sharifa must obtain an electronic permit. The tomb of the Prophet Mohammed (Peace be Upon Him) is located in Medina’s Prophet’s Mosque. The Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah stressed that the permit ensures access to Al Rawda Al Sharifa. It also helps avoid overcrowding and maintain order during the visit to this sacred site.
Annual Permit Issuance and Nusuk App Compliance
The ministry clarified that the permit is valid for one year and can be obtained via the Nusuk app. This app also facilitates the Umrah pilgrimage, ensuring smooth performance of the rites in Mecca’s Grand Mosque, the holiest site in Islam. After completing Umrah, many pilgrims visit Medina to offer prayers in the Prophet’s Mosque.
Record Number of Visitors to Al Rawda Al Sharifa
Over 10 million Muslims visited Al Rawda Al Sharifa this year, marking a 26% increase compared to last year. The visitors included 5.8 million male worshippers and 4.7 million female worshippers. Due to improved services, the waiting time to access the site is now reduced to just one hour.
In a recent development, Saudi authorities unveiled a new gilded brass barrier around the Sacred Chamber in the Prophet’s Mosque. The barrier, which replaced a wooden one, preserves the mosque’s architectural identity. Officials ensured the new structure’s stability, fixing posts to a solid base, making it resistant to crowd pressure and easy to maintain.
