Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman, the Minister of Energy, led the Saudi delegation at the 29th Conference of the Parties (COP29) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. It was held in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan.
The conference, themed “In Solidarity for a Green World,” runs through November 22.
The Kingdom’s participation is part of its ongoing efforts to support global initiatives in tackling climate change, driven by a comprehensive and practical approach focused on reducing emissions through a diverse array of technologies.
Middle East Green Initiative
This approach is a key component of the Kingdom’s flagship environmental initiatives, including the “Saudi Green Initiative” and the “Middle East Green Initiative.” These efforts focus on reducing and managing emissions, advancing renewable energy adoption, and expanding vegetation cover, all of which support the achievement of the sustainable development goals outlined in Saudi Vision 2030.
The initiatives aim to implement balanced and inclusive policies that recognize the historical responsibilities of countries in relation to emissions, while also supporting the right of nations to pursue sustainable development.

Through these policies, the Kingdom underscores the crucial role of energy security in driving economic growth and sustainability. It also seeks to ensure that investments in clean energy encompass both renewable and traditional resources, while honoring the sovereign rights of nations to manage and utilize their natural resources.
