Hail’s Governor, Prince Abdulaziz bin Saad bin Abdulaziz, has inaugurated the Excellence Center for Salmon Production, the Saudi Press Agency reported. The center marks the largest facility of its kind in the Middle East.

As a collaboration between the Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture and King Abdulaziz University, the Excellence Center seeks primarily to produce 100,000 tons of salmon per year.
Therefore, it would boost Saudi Arabia’s food security and aquaculture sector.
Consequently, this would decrease the Kingdom’s reliance on salmon imports, currently at 23,000 tons per year.

Spanning over 10,000 square meters, the facility boasts the latest marine technology, such as recirculating aquaculture systems and aquaponics units, which integrate fish and vegetable production.

Prince Abdulaziz described the project as a cornerstone of Vision 2030, fostering sustainable development and economic diversification. Meanwhile, several officials noted the center’s potential to strengthen innovation, create job opportunities, and provide a model for sustainable aquaculture in the region.
