Forest fires have swept across large areas of northern Israel due to missiles launched by Hezbollah from Lebanon. Rescue teams are struggling to control them.
The authorities evacuated many Israelis living in towns near the Lebanese border for months due to the escalation of fighting between Israel and Hezbollah.
Israeli media reported that there were minor injuries and that some homes were on fire.
The Israeli army sent equipment and soldiers to help contain the fire. It spreads quickly due to the hot and dry weather. Six reserve soldiers suffered minor injuries and suffocation and were taken to the hospital for treatment.
The Israeli army said, “The forces took control of the fire sites, and there is no danger to anyone’s life at this stage.”
Reuters news agency quoted the Israeli Nature and Parks Authority as saying that the fires had already spread to hundreds of acres.
The National Fire Service said its members worked late into the night in several locations, including the town of Kiryat Shmona. They were trying to protect a row of homes. Police said they closed roads and asked residents still in the area to evacuate.
On Sunday, 15 missiles were launched from Lebanon towards areas in northern Israel, all of which fell in open areas. As a result, fires broke out in several locations.
