Endangered Species Thrive in Saudi Reserve

The Imam Turki bin Abdullah Royal Nature Reserve Development Authority, in collaboration with the National Center for Wildlife, has taken a significant step toward conservation by reintroducing endangered species into their natural habitats. The initiative involved releasing 30 Arabian oryx, 10 Arabian gazelles, 50 sand gazelles, and five red-necked ostriches.

This effort seeks to foster environmental sustainability, restore the reserve’s ecological balance, enhance these species’ roles within their ecosystems, and raise public awareness about safeguarding endangered wildlife.

Moreover, the authority’s programs prioritize increasing community engagement, protecting biodiversity, and creating a sustainable environment to support wildlife reproduction and conservation, according to the Saudi Press Agency.

Spanning 91,500 square kilometers, the Imam Turki reserve is the Kingdom’s second-largest royal reserve. Additionally, it boasts a rich variety of wildlife and plant species, offering opportunities for hiking, wilderness exploration, camping, and sustainable hunting.

The reserve’s vegetation also serves as a critical habitat for numerous bird species, playing an essential role in maintaining ecological balance by managing insect populations, controlling small rodents, and aiding in carrion decomposition.
