‘A Place for the Heart’: New Resort to Bring Holistic Luxury to Amaala

A new wellness resort set to open at the Red Sea’s Amaala development will combine traditional healing practices with luxury hospitality, according to its chief executive.

Karen Campbell, co-founder and CEO of Jayasom, said the resort will focus on highly personalized wellness programs tailored to individual needs.

“A hallmark of what we want to do is create a bespoke experience,” Campbell said. “Some guests may be dealing with stress and sleep issues, others with digestive problems, fitness goals or weight management. Each person is different.”

Rather than offering standardized packages, the resort plans to design programs based on consultations with guests, drawing from a wide range of therapies and wellness interventions.

Campbell said the concept seeks to bridge modern medical science and traditional approaches to wellbeing.

“In modern life, much of the knowledge that previous generations relied on has been lost through the rise of hospitals, pharmaceuticals and drugstores,” she said. “We want to reconnect with that understanding and bring it together with contemporary medicine.”

She stressed that the approach is not intended to replace modern healthcare but to complement it.

The resort will offer retreats centered on specific wellness objectives, with programs customized for individuals and groups.

The name Jayasom, derived from Sanskrit and Thai, translates as “a sanctuary for the heart.” Campbell said the concept reflects both physical and emotional wellbeing.

Facilities will include hydrothermal bathing experiences, sound and music therapy sessions, and wellness-focused activities linked to food and nutrition.

The property will feature a farm area with vegetable plots and herb gardens, where guests can forage alongside chefs before using the ingredients in cooking classes, teas or other preparations.

“We want guests, especially children, to connect with where food comes from and how natural ingredients can be incorporated into everyday wellbeing,” Campbell said.

Sustainability is also a key part of the project. According to Campbell, the resort will operate entirely on solar power and recycle all of its water.

The site includes a protected beachfront that serves as a nesting area for sea turtles. Guests will be able to observe the animals during certain times of the year while measures remain in place to safeguard their habitat.

The resort also plans to introduce native honeybee species adapted to desert conditions as part of its environmental initiatives.
