Saudi Student Al-Khathami Triumphs at Arab Reading Challenge

Saudi student Kadi Al-Khathami was crowned the winner of the Arab Reading Challenge for its eighth edition, held in Dubai. This event marked a record turnout, with more than 28 million students representing over 229,000 schools across 50 countries, and was overseen by more than 154,000 reading supervisors.
Champion of Arab Reading Challenge
These were the first words of Saudi student Kadi Misfar Al-Khathami, who won the title of “Champion of the Arab Reading Challenge” for the year 2024. She spoke to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) about her experience from the moment she began her love for reading to her participation in the “Arab Reading Challenge,” organized by the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives in the United Arab Emirates, and her victory this year.

Kadi emphasized that her success is due first to God’s grace and then to the significant support and encouragement from her parents and her elementary school, which is part of the Asir education system, that nurtured her talent. She pointed out that since the beginning of her reading journey. Additionally, she has taken more than 100 books in various fields suitable for her age group to compete strongly in the competition.

This initiative aims to develop public awareness of the reality of Arab reading. It also enhances national and Arab sentiment, form a generation of distinguished and creative people, develop curricula for teaching the Arabic language, and increase awareness of the importance of reading among students.
Reading Competition
The challenge takes the form of a reading competition in Arabic, in which general education students from all Arab countries participate. Each stage involves reading several books and summarizing them, followed by elimination rounds based on established criteria. These rounds occur at the level of schools and educational regions, then at the country level, culminating in the final eliminations held annually in the United Arab Emirates.
