Saudi Obesity Surgery Society to Host International Conference

Under the patronage Prince Saud bin Abdullah bin Jalawi, the Governor of Jeddah, the Saudi Society for Obesity Medicine and Surgery is organizing its 7th International Conference from February 7th to 9th. The event will take place at the Hilton Jeddah’s conference hall, according to Saudi Press Agency.

In addition, the conference includes lectures, scientific sessions, and associated workshops. It will also hold a workshop on the latest developments in therapeutic nutrition and the psychological diseases causing and accompanying obesity, as well a training workshop for nursing staff new to obesity procedures.
Exhibition, Community Health Initiative: Step for Your Health
An accompanying exhibition will showcase all the latest medical devices for obesity treatment. Alongside the conference, a community health initiative titled “Step for Your Health” will be launched at the waterfront corniche under the supervision of Jeddah Municipality.
The event will feature vital signs measurement, weight, height, and Body Mass Index (BMI) assessments.
Moreover, consultants in obesity surgery and medicine, endocrinologists, and clinical nutrition specialists will provide advice and consultation to the audience.
Association President’s Statement on Conference’s Significance
Professor Aaidh Rabiaan Al-Qahtani, President of the Society, highlighted the Prince’s patronage. The patronage is a reflection of the state’s interest in scientific institutions and associations in achieving Saudi Arabia’s vision for a healthier lifestyle.
Additionally, obesity is a major cause of chronic diseases like diabetes, hypertension, heart diseases, arteriosclerosis, and tumors.
Also, experts forecast that obesity will cost the global economy $2 trillion in 2020, with projections reaching $4 trillion by 2030.

Additionally, Dr. Essam Batiyah, President of the 7th Conference, stated that this edition aims to discuss the latest scientific and practical developments in obesity medicine and surgery. It will feature the latest global research and studies in this field.

Consequently, the Saudi Society for Obesity Medicine and Surgery is one of the Saudi health societies affiliated with the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties. Also it aims to address the issue of weight gain and obesity, providing necessary support, human resources for combating and treating obesity.
