AlUla Governorate is hosting the second edition AlUla Camel Cup Championship. The total prize money for the AlUla Camel Cup rounds has reached 80,960,000 riyals, according to the schedule of the “Hump Racing”. The race will also wind up the Saudi Camel Federation calendar for the current season, according to Al Sharq Al Awsat.
On Wednesday, the championship began at the AlUla Camel Track for the second consecutive year. It featured six rounds in the camel race for both men and women. The total prize money for men’s rounds amounted to 48 million riyals. It will cover a distance of 25 kilometers (5 kilometers per round). Moreover, women’s prizes totaled 960,000 riyals, with a race distance of up to two kilometers.
The three days will also witness the holding of 10 rounds for the approved categories of camels, which are: Haqaqiya, Laqaya, Jaza’, and Thanaya. The total prizes for each round for each category are 6.4 million riyals (51.2 million riyals). Furthermore, the total prizes for the two “Hail” categories are – Zamoul: 24 million riyals (12 million riyals for each half).
Finally, these efforts, led by Prince Fahd bin Jalawi bin Abdulaziz bin Musaed and the Saudi Camel Federation, aim to preserve this cultural heritage.
It also seeks to elevate camel racing to global standards in alignment with “Kingdom’s Vision 2030.” They focus on governing and managing camel races and creating an ideal environment for practicing this traditional sport.
