Tesll us yourself.
I am Raghad Al-Anzi from Tabuk, an internationally certified endurance horsewoman, an amateur in horseback archery, and I have a horse named “Adl.”
Unlike girls your age, you chose a demanding sport. Tell us about your love for horses and your journey in this world.
Since I was very young, I have loved horses and strenuous sports. After that, a club opened in my city for horse training, so I went there, and from there, my journey with the world of horses began, and I delved deeper into training and learning everything about horses, including names, types, and colors, and my love and passion for horses grew more and more.
Tell us about the shows you participated in in the field of camels and horses.
I didn’t race, but I participated in many shows; they were in the field of shows. I participated in Princess Noura’s round in Riyadh, the seventh edition of the Camel Festival, the opening of the “Ready for Show Jumping” championship for the National Day Cup, the “Kahila” competition in Riyadh, the Baqiq Festival, the Desert Polo Championship held in AlUla, and most recently, I participated in the opening show of the AlUla Cup for tent pegging and archery.
After a long journey and many adventures in the world of horses, why did you turn to falconry?
My trip in AlUla was beautiful and enjoyable. It added a new hobby to me, which is falcons. I acquired some skills from it, including handling it with care and intense focus. I also acquired feeding it at a specific time that does not change because the falcon knows and feels annoyed if we delay the food.
What types of falcons do you deal with?
The types of falcons differ according to their kind and lineage, and their living places, like some birds need cold areas to live in and a certain cooling that cannot withstand hot weather.
Is it easy for women to join the field of falconry?
The field of falconry is wonderful, enjoyable, and easy; women and also children can learn it easily, and there is no high difficulty or danger in it; because it is an excellent field for every person who loves strenuous sports.
Do you follow certain steps while dealing with falcons or horses?
Cautiously, I deal with falcons and also horses, and this matter requires good experience, especially with falcons, because every movement has its meaning and indication, and you have to understand it.
What are the most difficult situations you’ve faced in the field of falconry?
There is nothing difficult in falconry; just keep away from fear and practice the training regularly before anything. Then, follow the correct basic steps to deal with the falcon to avoid bad situations. There are fundamentals in it that cannot be underestimated.
Do you name the birds you take care of with specific names?
Yes, each bird has a name it is called by according to the owner’s wish, and my falcon is named “Mu’izzi.”
Have you ever been injured by falcons before?
No, I have never been injured because I first went for training on how to handle it; only superficial wounds, and that is a natural thing for all falconers.
Give advice to the girls who want to join the field of horses and falcons.
I wish to see many women in this field, and my advice to them is
to stay away from fear because it is the enemy of success, and you must have patience, persistence, and determination, especially now, our current time has very strong support for women in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for all athletes.
What is your next plan?
God willing, my plan is to participate in all the forums of the world of falcons and horses, and God willing, I will expand into other fields and leave my mark in everything related to our heritage, the legacy of my ancestors.
