Nicola Formichetti Joins AlUla, Launches Fashion-Film Initiative

Saudi Arabia’s Film AlUla tapped Nicola Formichetti, fashion designer and creative director, as mentor for AlUla launched an initiative where fashion and film meet.

The renowned fashion designer will supervise designers  Alia and Abeer Oraif of Atelier Hekayat and Arwa Al Ammari of ArAm-alumni of AlUla Initiative launch; they design the costumes of two films shot at AlUla last month. The film will premier at film festivals later this year.

“Helping them elevate their concepts and bring their visions to life has been truly inspiring. Looking ahead, Film AlUla is set to reshape the creative landscape, marking an exciting future for storytelling,” said Formichetti in media statements.

They will partner with Hana Alfasi, Maram Taibah as well as sisters Raneem and Dana Almohandes.

Formichetti will join the established Saudi director Haifaa Al-Mansour and producers James Richardson and Jane Moore of Vertigo Films.

“I’m very excited about the role as a mentor for AlUla Creates. Collaborating with such talented creatives has been a magical experience,” added Formichetti.

Who is Nicola Formichetti ?

Formichetti has worked with world-famous artists like lady Gaga; he created her most infamous music videos and red-carpet moments that raised eyebrows and got the cameras flashing. His portfolio also includes Nicole Kidman, Bad Bunny, JLO, Gwen Stefani, Lil Nas X, and Olivia Rodrigo.

Nicola Formichetti further collaborated with fashion brands like Mugler, Diesel and Uniqlo.

Riyadh Fashion Week

Saudi Arabia has been striving to develop the fashion sector in the Kingdom by hosting fashion events and empowering the Saudi artists.

It hosted its first-generation Saudi Fashion Week in its continued efforts to carve out a path for the Arab world on the international arena in all fields.

The Saudi Fashion Commission inaugurated 2023 Riyadh Fashion Week last October, in the capital city. Taking place from October 20 to October 23, it celebrated Saudi Arabia’s growing fashion presence. A number of world-famous fashion figures, celebrities and buyers attended the event.

“For the first time ever, we now invite the fashion community to our home during this historic event. Saudi Arabia is on its way to becoming the next international fashion destination,”said the CEO of the Fashion Commission Burak Cakmak.

Riyadh Fashion Week had a showroom exhibit showcasing thirty Saudi brands. Adnan Akbar, Arwa Albanawi, Atelier, Hekayat, Dar Alhanouf and Dazluq were among the local brands that showed their work.
