In this report, Leaders MENA Magazine offers readers impressive highlights that defined 2025 as a year of remarkable progress and international acclaim for the Kingdom’s cultural vision.
New York Architectural Design Award
In May, the New York Architectural Design Awards awarded the Gold Prize to Saudi Arabia’s pavilion at Japan’s Expo Osaka 2025 in the Cultural Architecture – Interactive and Experiential Spaces category.
The award represented a prestigious recognition of the pavilion’s architectural excellence and its futuristic design that depicts the true essence of Saudi culture, according to the Saudi Press Agency.
Through a sensory journey beginning with an outer courtyard and leading into a central inner one, the structure stood out as a contemplative space showcasing the Kingdom’s cultural and urban diversity across cities and regions.

Promisingly, the pavilion served as a vibrant venue for performances and cultural programming throughout the six-month duration of the Expo.
As for the design, it significantly portrayed a stunning image of the architectural essence of Saudi villages and cities.
Interestingly, it also ignited the spirit of discovery and highlights cultural parallels between both Saudi Arabia and Japan.
UNESCO Creative Cities Network
Riyadh and Madinah officially become members of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network in October 2025.
Riyadh was recognized for its excellence in design, while Madinah received recognition for its advanced culinary arts.
These recognitions further solidify Saudi Arabia’s rising prominence in UNESCO’s global network of cities for cultural innovation and urban development.
Through Riyadh’s inclusion in the UNESCO Creative Cities Network, the Architecture and Design Commission aims to reinforce the Kingdom’s position as a global hub for urban innovation.
The selection also reflects Riyadh’s standing as a capital city that boasts profound historical, cultural, and architectural significance, along with its status as a vibrant hub for urban transformation and innovation in the region.
Meanwhile, selecting Madinah to join UNESCO’s network represents a turning point for its cultural and economic future, securing a seat on the global map of culinary excellence.

Currently, the Culinary Arts Commission, in collaboration with the Madinah Development Authority, seeks to integrate Madinah’s rich heritage and traditional flavors into the contemporary dining scene.
By securing these recognitions, the Kingdom affirms its commitment to boosting its cultural presence on the international stage and investing in creativity as a catalyst for social and economic progress, in line with the Saudi Vision 2030.
UNESCO Global Network of Learning Cities
The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) added three more Saudi cities, Riyadh, AlUla, and Riyadh Al-Khabra, to its prestigious Global Network of Learning Cities this year.
The three cities exemplify dynamic learning communities, providing unique opportunities to upskill and elevate their workforces in line with modern labor markets.
They also increase literacy initiatives for those who missed early education, enable citizens of all ages to adapt to the challenges of the artificial intelligence era, and boost a broad-based entrepreneurial culture.

This accomplishment stands as a testament to Saudi Arabia’s rabid growth in elevating the lifelong learning system and aligning education with the requirements of sustainable development.
By adding these three cities, Saudi Arabia has expanded its presence in the UNESCO Global Network of Learning Cities to eight members: Jubail, Yanbu, Madinah, Al-Ahsa, King Abdullah Economic City, Riyadh, AlUla, and Riyadh Al-Khabra.
Heritage Commission
In December, Saudi Arabia’s Heritage Commission secured a Silver Award at the 2025 New York Product Design Awards.
The award comes in recognition of Al-Qaayed Craft Mural, one of the flagship creations of the Artisans House in the Jazan Region.
This achievement coincides with the Year of Handicrafts 2025, a national initiative launched by Saudi Arabia to revive traditional crafts, highlight their cultural significance, and underscore their contributions to the creative economy.

By winning this award, the commission emphasizes its capability to present Saudi crafts in contemporary styles that keep pace with the spirit of innovation and showcase the richness of the national identity.
With this latest win, the Heritage Commission has brought its awards tally for 2025 to six, including five international honors and one regional recognition.
Since its establishment, the commission has won a total of 13 accolades across the fields of heritage, handicrafts, and design.
Cultural House
The Cultural House achieved a new international milestone in 2025 after being named the Gold Winner at the International Customer Experience Awards (ICXA) in the category of Best Customer-Centric Culture – Strategic Approach.
This recognition further solidifies the Cultural House’s position as a leading national organization that places visitors at the center of its strategy, reflecting a deep commitment to developmental impact and knowledge excellence.

The award also stands as a testament to the remarkable success of the Libraries Commission’s strategic approach, which places visitors at the core of its success by delivering a seamless, end-to-end experience from entry to exit.
With this latest achievement, the Cultural House is accelerating its efforts to fulfill the ambitious objectives of the Saudi Vision 2030, while promoting quality of life, encouraging cultural participation, and prioritizing the visitor experience as a key driver of innovation and social awareness.
