Heritage Commission, SDAIA Partner to Leverage Data, AI in Cultural Sector
The Saudi Heritage Commission has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA) to leverage data and artificial intelligence (AI) in the cultural heritage sector.
The signing took place during the Digital Heritage Conference 2025 in Riyadh, organized by the Commission on December 9-10, under the patronage of the Saudi Culture Minister, Prince Badr bin Farhan, according to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).
The MoU aims to develop data and AI solutions for the cultural sector and enable technical applications that will highlight, document, and boost the national heritage’s presence in the digital environment.
Moreover, the agreement aligns with the Heritage Commission’s and SDAIA’s approach towards utilizing data and analytical techniques in the inventory, documentation, and relational analysis of cultural heritage. This approach supports better decision-making and establishes a data-driven knowledge system.
The MoU also sets the stage for launching joint projects aimed at developing digital heritage content and deploying AI applications to interpret heritage and make it accessible to the public.
The partnership with SDAIA underscores the Commission’s recognition of the importance of boosting technical readiness in the cultural sector and establishing cooperation pathways aimed at building national capacities through community initiatives like hackathons and competitions. These efforts foster creativity and encourage youth and experts to create digital solutions that support national identity and heritage.
Through strategic partnerships with national entities, the Heritage Commission builds an innovative ecosystem that utilizes data and AI to preserve cultural heritage and enhance its presence.
