The Gulf Theatre Festival concluded its third day, after taking its visitors on a comprehensive journey through various aspects of theatre, its themes, and ideas. It is a continuation of the festival, which started on September 10 and will end with a closing ceremony on September 17.
The day began with a symposium titled “Intellectual and Artistic Values in Gulf Theater,” featuring Dr. Marzouq Bashir (Qatar), Dr. Habib Ghuloom (UAE), and Dr. Abdulkarim Jawad (Oman). This was followed by an award ceremony, where commemorative shields were presented to the festival’s honorees: playwright Fahd Rida Al-Harithi (Saudi Arabia), theater artist Ahmed Al-Jasmi (UAE), and the late theater artist Ibrahim Ghuloom (Bahrain), whose award was accepted by his son, Anmar Ghuloom. Other honorees also included playwright and director Imad Al-Shanfari (Oman), playwright Saleh Al-Manaie (Qatar), and theater actor Mohammed Jaber (Kuwait).
Ashoufak Play
In the evening, the play “Ashoufak” from the United Arab Emirates was performed, blending elements of comedy and tragedy to shed light on a social and historical reality rarely portrayed in drama. After the performance, a discussion seminar was held to review the play and explore different perspectives on its presentation.
In conclusion, Gulf Theater Festival is part of the Theatre and Performing Arts Authority’s initiatives to host international theatrical events and present the most prominent national and international theatrical works to various audiences, striving for a thriving and dynamic theatre scene.
