The Saudi Olympic and Paralympic Committee (SOPC) celebrated the 2024 World Olympic Day on Sunday, reported the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).
In collaboration with the Saudi Olympic Academy, the celebration took place at the Ministry of Sports Hall in the Prince Faisal bin Fahd Olympic Complex in Riyadh.
The event marked the presence of the SOPC Vice President, Prince Fahd bin Jalawi bin Abdulaziz bin Musaed, and the French Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Ludovic Pouille, together with numerous sports federations, committees, and associations.
The occasion witnessed the practice of various sports such as archery, table tennis, badminton, cycling, camel racing, judo, handball, rowing, basketball, weightlifting, lacrosse, and boccia.
Furthermore, Prince Fahd honored several Olympic and Paralympic athletes and organizations who took part in the accompanying panel discussion.
Ludovic Pouille expressed sincere gratitude and appreciation to the SOPC for their warm invitation to participate at the event.
Pouille also wished success to all Saudi athletes competing in the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The celebration coincidences with the founding of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) on June 23 each year and is celebrated by 206 Olympic committees worldwide.

SOPC is an independent higher sports organization that represents Saudi Arabia in all Olympic activities and competitions and various sporting events at the regional, continental, international and Olympic levels.
It has the exclusive authority to select a city that may apply for holding the Olympic Games.
Moreover, the committee has set its ambitious objectives, as follows:
- Taking part in the Olympic & Paralympic Games and the world, continental & regional games
- Keeping effective communication with the International Olympic Committee, international Federations, and national Olympic & Paralympic Committees
- Maintaining cooperative relations with government institutions
- Selecting the Kingdom’s representatives for the Olympic & Paralympic Games
- Signing registration forms for athletes
- Establishing a national Olympic museum to contain all memories of Olympics
- Rewarding outstanding athletes
- Implementing various sports and cultural programs
- Organizing training courses to prepare and develop administrators, coaches, and athletes
