US President Donald Trump has hailed Egypt’s role in reaching the ceasefire agreement in Gaza, ahead of the Sharm Al-Sheikh Peace Summit.
Speaking to reporters after arriving to Sharm Al-Sheikh, Trump described Al-Sisi as a “powerful leader,” praising his role in mediating the agreement between Hamas and Israel.
“He played a very important role I appreciate it very much,” Trump said about the Egyptian President, adding that “he is a good man.”
Trump also added that “phase two” of negotiations on the Gaza peace plan is underway, following the implementation of the first phase. He said that he would like Al-Sisi to join the “Board of Peace” that would temporarily run Gaza under the peace plan.
Moreover, the US State Secretary, Marco Rubio, pointed to the important role Egypt has played in reaching the deal.
Al-Sisi, for his part, said expressed his confidence that Trump was the only leader who could end the war in Gaza. The Egyptian President urged the need to ensure the implementation of ceasefire in Gaza, recover the bodies of the deceased, and increase aid flow into the Strip.
He also invited Trump to the Gaza reconstruction conference.
The two leaders will hold a bilateral meeting ahead of the Sharm Al-Sheikh Peace Summit to sign the agreement to end the war in Gaza, with the attendance of leaders from over 30 countries.
