The Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA), in collaboration with the Ministry of Municipalities and Housing, has launched a nationwide regulatory campaign to enhance food safety during Ramadan. Covering various regions and cities across Saudi Arabia, the initiative aims to ensure the quality and safety of widely consumed food items throughout the holy month.
The campaign includes rigorous inspections of food warehouses, retail outlets, and distribution centers to verify compliance with health regulations. It focuses on assessing the accuracy of food labeling and nutritional information, ensuring proper transportation and storage conditions, and implementing effective product tracking mechanisms. Moreover, these measures help maintain market integrity by preventing the sale of unfit products and enforcing adherence to technical regulations and safety standards.
In addition to inspections, the campaign features food safety training programs for employees in food establishments, promoting compliance with health requirements and ensuring the availability of safe, high-quality products.
Recognizing the influx of Umrah performers and visitors to Makkah and Madinah, the campaign introduces dedicated control plans tailored to these regions. It also ensures food availability meets the highest safety and quality standards.
Finally, the SFDA remains committed to continuous monitoring and enforcement efforts across its branches and offices, safeguarding public health by verifying compliance in food production, storage, and distribution throughout Ramadan.
